Art Comparison Essays Art Comparison Essay Art Comparison Essay Analyze and Compare Triumph of Shapur I Form: This is a 2D figure because you cannot walk around it and there is no other side. Composition: Shapur I is the largest figure and he is on top of a horse, wearing a large crown, and he has a sword. The other figures in the work are smaller and they are kneeling and being held by Shapur I. Material: This is made out of rock in Naqsh-e Rustam. Technique: This is a low relief carving (bas-relief) depicting the triumph of king Shapur I over Valerian and Phillip. * Shapur is largest, he is sitting on a horse, and he is wearing a crown. Emphasizing the concept of victory: Shapur has a sword. The figures of Phillip and Valerian (the defeated) are smaller and Phillip is kneeling. Victory Stele of Naram-sin Form: This is a 3D geometrical figure because you could walk around it and look at the blank side. Composition: Naram-sin is the largest figure and he is placed higher in the artwork than anyone else. Also, he is wearing a horned helmet, suggesting divinity . Material: This is made of pink sandstone. Technique: This is a low relief carving (bas-relief) depicting Naram-sinâ„ ¢s triumph over Satuni of Lullubi. * Naram-sin is largest, he is elevated higher than anyone else in the work and , he wears a horned helmet which shows divinity. Emphasizing the concept of victory: It depicts soldiers who have weapons and armor and Naram-sin is stepping on his dead enemies. The image that is most effective is the Triumph of Shapur I because it is larger and virtually and theoretically unmovable. The Victory Stele of Naram-sin is larger than an average human but the Triumph of Shapur I relief can look threateningly large when close to it. While the Victory Stele of Naram-sin is portable (proven when it was stolen by the Elamites), the relief of the Triumph of Shapur I was cut from a massive rock-face that would be impractical to even try to move.

Billy Budds lessons in Farewell to the Rights of Man! Essays

Billy Budds lessons in Farewell to the Rights of Man! Essays Billy Budds lessons in Farewell to the Rights of Man! Essay Billy Budds lessons in Farewell to the Rights of Man! Essay Essay Topic: A Farewell to Arms The film presents itself with Billy Budd as a sailor on a ship called the, Rights of Man. A ship from the British Navy is chasing them down as they correctly suspect, to impress men aboard theyre ship to become part of the navy. As we see on the ship, Billy Budd is a very lively, happy character that made everyone happy by singing through his tiring work. Budd is forced upon the HS Avenger where the crew is an unhappy, grumpy lot. Their unhappiness is due mostly to the master at arms, John Claggart. However, Budds jubilant personality brought light and warmth to an otherwise gloomy and cold ship. Budd proceeds to innocently try and become friends with Claggart. Claggart does not trust humans and he thinks that all men are out to get each other. He believe that he had to punish them before they get to him. Budds attempts fail though, and Claggart still treats him horribly and with bitterness. Shortly after, Claggart catches wind of a plot to end his own life, he brings it to the captain and accuses Budd of being the leader in this conspiracy. It seems however, that Claggart is really threatened by Budds apparent talent at making friends and ability to attract people to follow him, causing him to think he could start a mutiny. Mutinys in the year 1797 were a major concern in the British Navy and punishments to any involved were always severe if not the end of their lives. The captain calls both Claggart and Budd to his cabin for questioning. Claggart commences in spewing lies and accusations about Budd. Before Claggart can finish this, Budd, in a fit of anger and loss of words, hits Claggart and kills him with a single blow. This causes a problem for the ships captain, Captain Vere, (meaning truth). He personally did not like Claggart and he understands that Budd had no intention, but he feels that the only just thing to do would be to hang Billy Budd. He assembles a court marshal and they consult about what to do. Vere cannot decide whether to follow his own personal feelings or whether to follow his duty. In the end, they decide that the just thing to do would be to hang Billy Budd. Surprisingly, Budd is very content and does not fight the decision, for he understands what he has done. When Budd goes to be hanged before the crew, they voice their unhappiness, but none step forward to fight for his life. Billy Budd dies in front of the crew peacefully and without last words. Portrayal of the Legal System: This film brings up issues pertaining to Capital Punishment. It seems like an unfavorable portrayal of it, since Budd is such a likeable character. The film makes Claggart seem like a criminal for all the suffering and horrible things he makes the crew got through. But one could argue that he is just fulfilling his duty. The film makes Budd look like a hero, because he makes everyone happy through trying times. The way the Captain handles it is a very realistic approach to the situation. Just like in hammurabis Code, the famous Eye for an Eye, stands true in this. The legal system is presented in a few ways. The master of arms, Claggart is almost like the police. He watches the crew and enforces the laws of the ship. If a law is broken by one of the crew, then he reports it to the Captain who then will decide a punishment for the man. A judge and jury could be compared to the questioning from the captain and then the court marshal where they decide what should be done with Budd. The punishments would be done aboard ship. The crew cannot defend themselves really; their word is not taken as heavily as that of the Master at Arms. Relationship between Legal System and the Individual/Society: The main relationship that was portrayed in this movie was that between Claggart and Billy. This was an obviously strained relationship. Billy was very open to a friendship with Claggart, but Claggart would not have it and deemed it to be impossible. Since Claggart is the legal system, and Billy is the individual this represents one relationship. Another relationship that is key is the relationship between Captain Verre and the code. Captain Verre would like to forgive Billy and to let him go and not press charges, but the code says that Billy should die. This poses a conflict between Verres moral and lawful values. Should he kill Budd as the law tells him to? Or should he let it pass, because he knows Billy is a good person and it was accidental? The Issue/Conflict: The issue/conflict arose when Billy boarded the ship. His jubilant manner contradicted how the master at arms felt sailors should be. He took this attitude as a threat to the order of the ship. He saw Billy as the type of person who would start a mutiny. Claggart felt that Billy was up to something, especially when he attempted being friends with him. It created division, because Claggart cannot trust anyone and thinks Billy Is bad news. It created division, because everything Billy does to make the crew happy, Claggart sees as it as an attempt to turn their backs on the rules and persuade them to do the wrong. The second, more important issue is that of Verre and his decision. It arose through the killing of Claggart and from deciding what Billys punishment should be. Side A says that it is the Captains duty to kill Billy according to the rules and the law. The captain also takes into account the life lost; that although Claggart was a gloomy person, he had the right to live and tha t right was taken away when Billy killed him. Side B would argue that Billy did it by accident and that it was not a malicious kill. Chances are, Billy would not kill again. There is also the chance that people will mutiny if Billy dies. These are the thoughts that run through the Captains mind when he ponders Billys future. The conflict ends with Bills execution through hanging. The Captain deduces that the right choice to make is to kill Billy according to the law, and Billy accepts that. Despite the crews disapproval of the action, the captain has to go through with it. Billy also is very content with the Captains decision, because he understands what he killed a man and that that is a capital punishment. Billy does not hold any bad feelings for feel bitter, because he feels bad about Claggarts death as well. The Message and the Subtext: (I was not clear whether you were referring to the time the book was made, or the time the movie was made) The book was started in 1886 by Herman Melville. During that time Capital Punishment might have been a controversy. This was probably a reflection upon the army and the issue of a persons rights. The army was much more strict in the 1800s than it is not and brutal punishment was not unheard of. However, I suspect that this is not related to the army and just that of how someone should be judged. I think Herman Melvilles intention was to show the conflict between duty and morals. In 1962 this movie was probably related more to the army. In 1967 the United States was in a cold was with Russia and many troops were being deployed through out the world to protect countries. Many men were being court marshaled and many people were being investigated for conspiracy, since it was a largely unpopular war to be in. It probably brought up the issue of killing the enemy. Technically for killing someone, you should die or be severely punished. Even if he/she is the enemy like Claggart, do they have the same rights that we have? This is the type of question that people in the army had to face and had to live through. The Movie, its Message, and You: To me, Billy Budd explored the idea that even though you are not a bad person, you can still be punished for a crime you committed according to the law. This film taught me that many courts are unforgiving and would never forgive a random outburst of anger. This both calms me, and frightens me. It calms me because that means that people, who kill and dont mean to or dont understand their strength and ways, are being put into jail far away from me. But it also frightens me, to think that what if it happened to me and no one is merciful? It also gets me thinking about capital punishment and where it should be applied. Such as, under what circumstances does a person have to kill for their life to be taken away? What type of mental state do they need to have? Does it matter? It arose issues such as this and I left class the last of filming thinking about all of this. I think that this is a semi-accurate portrayal of the legal system. Semi-accurate, because today we have a jury, we have many people who would have defended Billy and others to defend Claggart. Or maybe there would have been a person to defend Jenkins when Claggart ordered him to his post, which led to his death. The portrayal of someone enforcing the law and some sort of court is very accurate though. The court marshal acts as the judge and the jury. The captain calls both men in for questioning before Billy kills Claggart. This is all accurate to how thinks would be help today. Ultimately, they decided to obey the law and kill Billy. However, the issue of Capital Punishment was different throughout all ages. Back in the 1800s there might not have ever been an argument about it, and people rarely questioned the law. It was just a clear yes, he deserves to die or no, he did not commit the crime. Now, people have become more passionate and we understand that there are certain circumst antial and rightful killings. Such as, killing to defend one self. I dont think Billy would be let go completely free. Most likely, they would give him 25 to life now. I think the argument is universally a problem and it always will be. There will always be side A and B who will lock heads and argue whether this punishment is humane or just. Watching this movie in class, it was not terribly exciting, but looking back on all the movies Ive watching in school it was not the worst. I liked the character Billy a lot and how he was cheerful through everything. I thought that generally, the acting was good since bad acting is a pet peeve of mine. What I did not like was the fact that it was in black and white. I really love color to catch my eye and the fact that every color was some variation of a mixture of black and white really annoyed me. The only other thing I can think of was that in man cases, I could not understand what they were saying. Thank god, you deciphered it. Over all, Im sure that if I saw the movie in theaters in 1962 I would have thoughts I got my moneys worth. Billy Budd taught us more than the law though. During the time Billy was aboard this Miserable ship Avenger, he always kept a positive attitude and took the cup half full, approach to any situation. That teaches me that maybe school isnt that bad and maybe I should take things from a different angle instead of seeing all the work involved. I also learned to accept whats for me and what you cant help. Such as this paper, at first I was very reluctant to start a 13-paragraph essay. Thats pretty daunting, but as I rounded my 5th paragraph I knew that I had to do this. This is acceptance, not to the same greatness and peacefulness ad Billys, but still getting there. The third lesson I took from Billy Budd is not to kill someone., because there are always consequences for your actions. Not that I ever considered killing someone, but I mean that it made a big impression on me that in the real world, hey dont care is you have a problem getting the words out so you just punch. There are no s econd chances. So, with me on the road I realize that there is no saying whoops sorry, wont happen again. Theres saying, Please dont tell my parents I got arrested. Its kind of a slap in the face that bad things happen to good people, and good people do bad things to make that true.

CJUS 350 DB7 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

CJUS 350 DB7 - Essay Example While carrying out the search, it is important that one carries himself as if he is being watched. While being watched is not the subject of interest, the police officer must ensure that he conducts himself in accordance with the law, to the latter. This may also refer to the scope of the search, just as is evidenced by the case law Harris v. United States and Trupiano v. United States. According to Qureshi (2012), this above is because, failure to stick to the right behavior may lead to the inadmissibility of the evidence that was thus seized and subsequently adduced before the court of law. This makes setting limits related to tolerable behavior a necessity. If based on interrogation of the suspect, I believe that he is aware of the girl’s whereabouts, I will integrate investigative with negotiation skills to get him to reveal the location of the abducted child. To this end, I will remind the suspect of the severity of the act he may have engaged in, and the lenience that he will be accorded, if he reveals the child’s location. This involves, pursuing all the circumstantial evidence that point to the suspect and discretionally telling the suspect about some of these circumstantial evidence. The suspect is then made aware of the lenience that will be accorded him, if he reveals the child’s location in his own

Strategic Management Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Strategic Management - Essay Example 1-13). The different strategies are analyzed and their sustainability evaluated. Also, recommendations and justification are given for other relevant strategies. Discussion The Samsung Electronics has been involved in accumulation of knowledge over the last few decades. However, the company is facing tough competition from other companies. The increase in the overseas production has impacted on the strategic response in Korea. The production network in Samsung extends beyond the ASEAN region through to China and India. Ration of the overseas production to the total production has in the recent years increased sharply. The competition is intense towards the cost-driven struggle for the low-end markets (Leachman & Jeenyoung 2002, p. 61-77). The three major electronics producers in Korea; Samsung, Daewoo and Goldstar, have expressed their intention in increasing the overseas production. By early 1990s, the Samsung Electronics performed an organization integration meant to increase the c oordination between the marketing, production and research across and within the product lines. By 1992, the multiple product sectors were fully under the control of Kim Kwang Ho, who was the CEO and the head of the semiconductor operation. The company started initiating more radical reforms by mid 1993 who improved the dissemination of knowledge within the group. The semi-conductor sector enhanced the technological synergy in other related businesses. For instance, the production of the DRAM technology led to the precision of the Samsung electronics leading to significant improvement in technology. The product design capability is an important strategy by Samsung to enhance the internationalization of production where the low-value-added goods were produced while new products prevented hollowing out of production in Korea. The increased changes of the competition conditions increased the difficulties in foreign licensing and the designs turned out to be very complex. Samsung began acquiring some new capabilities through direct acquisition of foreign firms. The R&D operations in Samsung have been continually centralized Samsung Electronics had strategized on the release of new devices to expand the line-up based on the conditions in the market. This was to prevent overreliance on the android Platform from Google. This sought for the reduction of dependency on Android (Bong & Jinjoo 2004, p. 16). The company produces TFT monitors with the corporate customers being in mind. This strategy necessitates an approach where the company identifies potential markets among the business users whose employees have a high likelihood of spending long hours on a computer screen. The company also targets other markets such as the high street shops that use TFTs for the point of sale terminals. The company uses the radical market strategy to encourage high purchases of their products. The head office in Korea has played a crucial role in introducing strong brand awareness as we ll as instilling good product perceptions. Assessing the sustainability of this strategy, the company has been able to realize high profiles as well as creating high profile for their brand (Chung & Karen 2009, p. 20-27). Samsung Electronics is relatively new in mobile communications. Having established in CDMA markets in Korea and USA, Samsung has decided to incorporate global

Performance Management Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Performance Management - Assignment Example Job description is a statement of the overall purpose and scope of a job together with its details of a task and duties. It is a written statement of what the employee does how he does it and what the job working conditions are. In general, a job description sets out the purpose of the job where it fits into the organization structure, the context in which the job holds a function and the principles of the job accountability of the jobholder. The content includes Job identification, job summary, responsibilities, standard of performance and job specification (Said & Munap, 2010). The retail staff shall achieve optimum sales profitability, business growth and accounts penetration within a market segment or territory by selling the products of the retail shop effectively. The retail sale staff shall secure as well as contact customers and new business accounts in the market. The organizational behaviour management (OBM) involves the application of the science of human behaviour. OBM relates to the behaviour of people in a workplace, in addition, OBM is guided by a theory of human behaviour that is emphasised on identification and modification of environmental factors that affect employees performance. OBM is anchored in the work of B.F Skinner who postulated that an employee’s behaviour is inferred by his needs. In that, an employee may perform poorly in work because of poor job satisfaction or reduced rewards when he makes much profit to a company. Therefore, the OBM process identifies behaviours related to performance, study their instances and occurrences, identifies the major triggers, come up with interventions strategy, applies the postulated strategy and maintains the optimal performance through appropriate rewards to the employees. OBM embraces a three contingency model that is antecedent-behaviour-consequence. An antecedent is the stimulus that precedes behaviour and encourages the practice of that behaviour.

Importance Of Acoustic Treatment Music Essay

Importance Of Acoustic Treatment Music Essay Sharp tools make good work. Chinese Proverb online To have a nice recording, we must choose a nice recording studio. To have a nice recording studio, acoustic treatment is the most important progress while building the studio. Why is acoustic treatment so important? Acoustic treatment will make the actual recorded sound better, it is just as important as the mixing process. The purpose of acoustic treatment is to improve the quality of sound in the room. Acoustics Treatment of the studio is very important than the used of the equipments for record the track on. Yet there are still many people who only allocate a small portion of their budget to acoustic treatments when building a recording studio or home studio. It is very important to choose the right type of room and after that we have to testing the acoustic in that room, make sure that everything like the soundproofing of the studio is good. Let say, we can listen to the tracks that recorded in the studio, if we can hear somethin g like reverb or echo on the track, or the sound is rather flat, this might mean that the acoustic of the studio were wrong. Insufficient insulation can result in the interference of external noises. People always think they can or able to overcome acoustics with equipments but you just cant. Russ Berger (Sound On Sound Article 2005 [online]), the president of acoustic and audiovisual consultancy firm, Russ Berger Design, told Carolin Heinz in an article for the website Electronic Musician. Beside that, there is another common mistake that people always make, according to Berger, is to confuse sound isolation with the acoustic performance in a room. Sound isolation is simply the process of stopping sound entering or leaving the room. It has no bearing on how sound is absorbed and diffused in the room itself, which are the key determinants of how a recorded track sounds when listened to. Every studio building needs to be acoustically treated as standard professional music or audio studio requirement for professional sound quality. So when building a recording studio, we have to pay much attention to this, this will avoid frustrations in the future. (B) Treatment Characteristics Acoustic Treatment is so important to the studio it is because we want to prevent standing waves in the room. When the standing wave occurs, it will affect the frequency response of the listening rooms and the recording studio. Beside that, by using the right acoustic treatment, we can absorb or diffuse the sound in the room to avoid the flutter echoes and improve the stereo imaging while the recording and keep the sound from leaking into or out from the room. Correct use of acoustic treatment could lower the reverb time in larger space or room or reduce modal ringing in the small room. Thus modelling the acoustics to cater for our needs. There are few problems that we have to consider while building a studio such as absorption, diffusion, reverberation and isolation. Sound absorption can be defined as when sound that strikes the materials doesnt reflect back. An open window is a very good example for poor absorption because the sound waves goes through the open window and never reflected back. The more fibrous materials have more absorption; oppositely the denser materials are less absorption. By using the absorption materials in the studio, it can minimize the reflections while the recording going and it can also prevent the standing waves and flutter echoes. With this control over acoustics, one can model a space to be optimum for a certain purpose. The LEDE (Live End Dead End) concept illustrates this. By using acoustic treatment we can deaden one half of the room whilst keeping the other half reflective. Absorption can become very useful when tuned to a specific frequency. In general, low frequencies are very difficult to absorb because of their long wavelength, on the contrary, high frequencies are easily absorbed by less complicated structures, The reduction of high frequencies in a critical musical environment is essential for the reduction of flutter echoes. Products like bass traps are absorbing devices specifically designed to absorb the low frequency energy. The good bass trap is the combination of the hard, soft, thin materials. By the way, the back of the trap and the gap between the walls can make it even more effective. Reverberation time will be affected by the absorption. The lower the reverberation time, it is mean there is more absorption. By adding the porous absorber is the easiest way to make the good absorption. Beside that, placing the acoustical foam on those reflective surfaces until the reverberation time is suitably reduced. On the other hand, by removing the absorbing materials will lengthens the reverberation time. Diffusor can be used to reduce reverb or echoes that will be occur in a room that has parallel walls and the flat ceiling. Through the research and books that I have read, all the professional studio designers they agree that periodic reflections caused by parallel walls are best avoided. So, diffusion is always used into absorption to tame these kinds of reflections because diffusion is handful of sound energy using multi-faceted surfaces. Diffusers are commonly made of wood, plastic, or even polystyrene. Jorge Castro (2004, online) explains: diffusion helps in energy control and improves the sound quality in frequencies throughout the middle and high range of the spectrum, and also improves sweet-spot should be sitting to get the best stereo image (imagine that your head and the two speakers form an equilateral triangle). Insulation is the process of blocking sound from leaking out from the room and is also to soundproof the room from external vibrations or sound. The good noise controls room can retain the sound within the listening area. Isolation is a very critical question, but the most important is still about the room treatment. Even you will feel something going wrong while you are in the quiet room if its acoustic treatments are wrong. And what can you do for the isolation if your studio is going to build nearby the highway, or beside the train track? Only two things can be done to insulate a space: increasing mass or separation. We will see how we address by the use of correct materials. (C) Studio Design Now that we have looked at what problems might occur in a room and how to address them, we shall see how they apply to a professional studio. Room mode or natural resonant frequency, which is related to the length, width and height of the room, is one of the most important properties in the studio design and it determines its natural resonances. (Ethan Winer, 2008[online]) Let say the rectangular room has 3 sets of primary modes, which are length, width and height. So, if you have got a irregular room shape or irregular angled walls, then you have to average the dimensions and get the rough idea of the mode frequency. As a rule of thumb one could say: the larger the rooms the better the acoustics. This is one of the examples of the recording studios design, materials of used and its construction details. (i) Studio Layout (Siavash Irani, pers. Comm., 11 December 2010) (ii) Construction Details Dry Walls is a Simple single stud design sufficient for wall because the dry walls are doubled, one on the existing outer wall and one as inner wall. We make the double walls to minimize structural linking. Studs spacing is 24, on center instead of the usual 16 spacing, this yields a slight increase in TL (transmission lost). The walls are angled but room shape symmetrical to provide even dispersion and prevent flutter echo. Diameter approx 5 to 6. Total estimated wall area: Total wall perimeter x Average Ceiling height 239.5 ft * 12.125 ft = 2903.9 2903.9 * 2 = 5807.9sq ft. (http://www.ethanwiner.com/BTPlans.gif) (http://www.ethanwiner.com/BTParts.html) Ceiling angled upwards at 12 degrees from the front to the middle of both rooms and then backs down at 12-degrees.10 ft (3.05m) min height for optimal drum sound recording. The diameter approx 10. Total estimated ceiling area: 289 + 305.15 + 238 + 295.87 = 1128.02 sq ft. Diameter of floor is approx 10 Total estimated floor area: 280.7 + 296 + 231 + 287 = 1094.7 sq ft. Acoustic Timber Door ¼Ã…’STC 30-35 each leaf. It has a same construction as walls using timber and narrower studs. The dense yet lightweight mineral fiber for more STC and it including gaskets to seal sound, hinges, knobs Total: 6 doors with dimensions of approx 6.5 x 2.7 x 3 Acoustic Window Double Glazed The space between glass panels sealed. Use two different thicknesses of glass to prevent resonant frequencies and sealed enclosure up to STC 47. The distance between the paresis about 150mm. Total: 2 double-glazed acoustic windows with 6 x 2.5 panes The use of sound lock can reduce -3 dB. As sound insulation by air volume and air sealed by door gaskets. Air-conditioner Duct Damping About the noise-reducing enclosure of air-conditioning by using plywood baffle and installed into the opening of the air-con duct with simple plywood baffle held together with strong and moisture resistant adhesive. The plywood maze slows down the airflow or the air-con, thus reducing noise. The absorbent foam lined/covered on plywood baffle to absorb airflow noise as well as noise from generator. Its 4 ft in length. Example Example of a self-made duct baffle (D) Materials With good and correct materials in building a studio, it can help you to record and mix your music correctly. A good room, good acoustics can defined as we can get the sound from the speakers in the room and listen through your ears as unchanged as possible. (Ethan Winer, 2008 [online]) A good studio should have a very good isolation but still as neutral as possible for you to hear the details such as stereo positioning properly. So, the music we have mixed and equalized can sound good and has the good opportunity of sounding good in other rooms as well. Controlling the sound in a room is achieved by selective acoustic treatments. Materials are the source out for the best acoustic characteristics in terms of isolation and diffusion, but since there are many ways and different materials to do this, we try not to go overboard with specialized materials as they can break the budget. Instead to use effective construction methods with typical materials, and whatever that works fine as well as cost-effectiveness. (i) Acoustic Foam The most important aspect of any studio or home theater probably is the using of acoustic foam. Even the listening room, it can also make or break a project studio. It doesnt matter how much money you will spend on the recording and monitoring equipments. If the room itself doesnt has a good acoustic treatment, the result of the recording will never as good as it could be. When the sound is traveling in the room it will reflect from different surfaces. So, this is meaning the acoustic problem will be occurring. These can be the reflections, flutter echo, reverberation, standing waves and modal problems. When all of these frequencies started bouncing around, the sound waves can change because they are clashing into each other. This will absolutely affects the last result for the negative. That is meaning you will start to off with one sound and end up with another sound while in the recordings. When there are two parallel walls, or two parallel ceiling and the floor, it will create standing wave. So the distance between the walls, ceiling or the floor will reinforce some of the frequencies. This mean the sound will makes exactly one round trip in each cycle of the speaker and the pressure fronts pile up. So, this is why people like to sing in the bathroom while taking the shower because the low frequency of the voice are greatly amplified by the standing waves and it will sounds nice. The installing of the acoustic foam can improved the response of the room and the sound of the room can be under control. The use of the acoustic treatment is the only way that can tell you the accurate while you are doing your recording, mixing, editing, or monitoring as well as not to affected by the room you are in. Whatever you want your room to stay live or dead, good acoustic treatment is the only way to help you to tame the beast that in your room and keep everything under the control. So, you have the ability to record and monitor your stuff accurately. Product like The ProCornerà ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢ is an effective way to increase low frequency absorption (minimizing low frequency room modes and speaker boundary interference distortion) by increasing acoustical foam thickness in the corner, while visually extending and seamlessly integrating with the Profoamà ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚ ¢ wall design. RPG ® Diffuser Systems Studio in a Box Diffuser and Absorber: FIGURE 1: Diffusor System Additional panels may be layered to any thickness offering unlimited absorption. The using of ProFoam because its absorption and diffusion properties are sufficient for the studios surface, as its stackable, and for a uniformed look. (ii) Gypsum Board FIGURE 2: Gypsum board (http://www.bombayharbor.com/productImage/0578747001219286428/Gypsum_Board.jpg) Gypsum board is a typical material used for layering walls, holding insulation fibers, providing a certain amount of damping and as wall surface. It is also used for floors, doors and ceilings treatment. (iii) Plywood FIGURE 3: Plywood (http://www.stockporttimber.co.uk/st_cms/data/upimages/Plywood.jpg) Plywood to separate gypsum and studs and adhere with soundproofing mat. Chip wood (recording room floor) is an ordinary chip wood for flooring. It is act like a diffusor. (iv) Sound Blocker Membrane FIGURE 4: Sound Blocker Membrane (http://www.soundservice.co.uk/images/PRODUCTS_gallery/ACOUSTIC_MEMBRANE/1.jpg) Sound Blocker Membrane have excellent sound insulating qualities and it can be used as a sole sound barrier layer, or as part of a multilayer composite with other materials such as sound absorbing foam and carpet. It acts, as a thin, dense sound barrier layer in walls, ceilings or floors and its most effective when used as one component of a multi-layered construction scheme. It extremely effective at improving the sound and insulation properties of lightweight plasterboard partitions, floors and almost anything else. (v) Mineral Woll FIGURE 5: Mineral Woll (http://www.domesticsoundproofing.co.uk/soundproofing/amw_slabs1.jpg) Acoustic mineral woll is use for the reduction of airborne noise between flooring joist, suspended ceiling and in partition walls, it is a good sound absorbing infill. By using the acoustic mineral woll, it will has more efficient for the purpose of soundproofing than a lightweight thermal insulation, chemically and mom-flammable insert. By the way, this will not adversely affected by any substance. Beside that, it will not react with metal wall ties and wired plastic, masonry or brickwork. While using in a standard stud wall, it can increase the sound insulation performance by up to 150%. It normally will provide a reduction in the reverberant noise level up to 200% when fitted under the roof constructions. It will provides a reduction in air bone noise levels by up to 100% when it fitted in-between the ceiling or the floor joists. (vi) Resilient Bar FIGURE 6: Resilient Bar  ¼Ã‹â€ http://www.soundservice.co.uk/images/clip_image001.gif ¼Ã¢â‚¬ ° Resilient Bar is a thin metal channel, which is designed to substantially improve the sound insulation of the plasterboard ceilings and walls. It can easily isolate the plasterboard from the studworks, and it will contact directly to dissipate sound, which is normally being transfer through the frame. Because of the improvements in both impact and the airbone noise, so the sound will normally act well in excess of 300%. (vii) Gasket FIGURE 7: Gasket (http://www.customaudiodesigns.co.uk/seals/neoprene2.jpg) Gaskets/ Cushioning, self-adhesive EPDM / Neoprene blend expanded foam rubber sealing strip. This is ideal for exposed sealing, damping and cushioning. It age resistant and chemically neutral against the most commonly used lacquers and Plastics and resistant to most caustic chemicals, resistant against ozone, moisture and UV radiation. This is good for isolating and decoupling battens attached to walls and ceilings. (viii) Acoustic Caulk FIGURE 8: Acoustic Caulk (http://i.ehow.com/images/a06/0o/uo/acoustical-caulk_-800X800.jpg) Acoustic Caulk is use to maintain the STC (Sound Transmission Class) value of the system such as metal studs, gypsum board, wood, concrete and other types of building substrates. Because of its unique formulation such as non-hardening, non-migrating and non-drying, so it can apply to the joints, ceiling runners either metal and wood, cutout in gypsum board and other area where the sound rated assembly is required. By the way, it can also be applied on the heating and the air conditioning ducts or other utility equipment penetrating wall surfaces in order to increase the acoustical performance. E) Comparison between recording studio and home studio We can notice that why professional recording studio they spent so much time and money in order to get a good acoustics design but why there is still a lot of people they dont take this seriously and record in their house without doing any acoustic treatment? For an example, various devices are invented like microphone a transducer that changes one form of energy into another corresponding form of energy (David and Robert, 2005) to enhance the professionalism and the quality of recorded music, also a lot of techniques are established around that time as well, such as automatic double-tracking technique are invented by the Beatles which is the process where we copy a signal and make it sound like the singer or band member overdubbed the exact same thing over the original track (Audio Production Tips [online]). On the other hand, MIDI (Musical Instrument Interface), there is countless plug-ins, synthesizers, samples and loops available in the market, and all these elements have become the major elements of music production and major arrangement of popular music nowadays. So with this kind new popular culture, many people can produce their music or track in their house just only using their computer. Another example such as disk jockey, they have an expensive DJs sets so they gain more flexibility of their creating and producing music with only a laptop computer as such a convenience rise of a fact, they can make satisfaction, high quality music in a more efficient and cost-effective way by using samples, plug-ins, they can perform unlimited variation of sound, instrument, techniques that without any acoustic treatment needed. All of them are the invention of for the music production. But is it possible if a rap artist or vocalist they want to record a good quality track without any good environment? Let say if the rap artist or vocalist they record their song in their house by using a very expensive microphone and gear but without any acoustic treatment, in the result of the recording will be too much room noise on the track such as the ceiling fan in your room, outside traffic and etc, all of these will produce the low frequency rumble. So it will take you a lot of time and it is very hard for you to do the mixing. Equipment is useless if sound is recorded badly. This is why professional recording studio they will spend so much money on the acoustic treatment. Beside to give you the good environment to recording your music and track, and it also because you can get the good quality on your final production. But sometimes money will be a matter of fact it always comes to the first priority problem, investing less money on a home-base production but achieve quality results, you can also do it with cheaper acoustic treatment as well. Normally, the acoustic problems of home studio are reflections of high frequencies and mid-range from the hard surfaces. Second, peaks and troughs in the rooms low-end response caused by the rooms dimensions and the reflectivity of the walls at low frequencies. Both compromise the accuracy of what you believe you are hearing from your monitor speakers, and each has to be dealt with in different ways. (Paul White, Feb 2006 [online]) So, you can DIY your own acoustic treatment to avoid these problems. Absorption and Diffusion are always had to consider into the progress when DIY your own home studio. For the example, if you dont have enough money to afford the acoustic foam, you can use the existing furniture that you have got in your house like carpet, soft furnishing, curtains can as the sound absorbing materials. In the small room, triangle pieces of foams are designed to go in corners, this can reducing the room resonances. But is there is too much of absorbing materials in the small room, it will give you a very dead sound. By the way, for the sound diffusing materials, bookshelves can does this job if it does not places in the large block, so it can act as diffusor to break up the reflections. You can also use LEDE (Live End Dead End) for the home recording space when you placing your speaker in the dead end. Beside, you can use the same room to monitoring your mix after the recording. Every room is different, so it is important to listen to the result by using acoustic treatment. For the example, the dead end always can be tackled first, foam and bass trap are suggested to use if necessary. you can test if there any flutter echoes in the high frequencies with handclap. If you hear the boommie sound when you are talking, that is mean you need more absorbing materials. (F) Conclusion Overall, are acoustics really that important in recording music today? Even though the quality of the instruments, speakers, recording gear and amps are expensive, but without the good acoustic treatments, all the recording will be bad and it will take you even more time to get your track done. That is why we still need to pay a lot of attention to the space in which we use them. The acoustic treatment of recording studio is very tricky because of the construction materials used and the size of the studio. No matter how, acoustics are really important but the way we produce music has changed. The room is less important as an important of the production is now done digitally. But, there is still some recording like vocal recording you have to done in the environment with good acoustic treatment unless you prefer the low quality of recording. Acoustical treatment is not something that you can put your hands on and work with, such as a reverb unit. It is, however, the single most important aspect of any room bar none! Emotional Intelligence And The Implication Education Essay

In recent old ages companies begin to recognize the polar place of emotional intelligence and attach more importance on leader ‘s emotional intelligence development. Actually the emotional intelligence enables leaders better perform in the workplace. This essay will come to an apprehension of emotional intelligence on the footing of the writer ‘s sentiment. The first portion of the essay includes the history of emotional intelligence, its definition and the dimensions. The 2nd portion of the essay will show the deduction of emotional intelligence in service operation leading. Cardinal words: emotional intelligence, service operation leading, better public presentationIntroductionEmotional intelligence has been one of the most popular Fieldss to be developed in educational and psychological communities over the past few decennaries. Evidence suggested that cognitive ability was non sufficient for the success of a service operation leading. Particularly in today ‘s society, challenges and competitions coexist, companies call for invention and reformation. In such a complex environment, service operations leading is of critical importance in footings of service organisational public presentation for every individual service organisation. Meanwhile, the strength of the service operations leading has a close relationship with emotional intelligence. Leaderships could score high on traditional intelligence trials yet do ill in other countries in the workplace such as societal dealingss and self-assessment. Therefore, for a service operational leader, it i s ineluctable but practical to beef up emotional intelligence every bit good as to heighten leading.Historic Development of Emotional IntelligenceEqually early as in 1920, the Columbia University professor EL Thorndike foremost proposed the construct of societal intelligence. He stated that people with high societal intelligence â€Å" has the ability to understand and pull off others, and can move sagely when constructing relationship with others. And in 1926, the first intelligence trial named George Washington Social Intelligence Test was released to the populace. The trial inquiries included placing the emotional province of the characters in the image and judging the jobs in the interpersonal relationship, etc. However, in the following few decennaries the attempt in this field made by the psychological community paused down because most of them attached more importance on the research of IQ trial ( the ability of mathematic, logic, linguistic communication and spacial ability ) which assumed to make up one's mind one ‘s learning ability and farther influence the development of work public presentation in the hereafter. Until 1983, Howard Gardner ‘s Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences introduced the superb thought of â€Å" multiple intelligences † that included both interpersonal intelligence which is â€Å" the capacity to understand the purposes, motives and desires of other people † and intrapersonal intelligence which Gardner defined as the capacity to understand oneself, to hold an effectual working theoretical account of one ego and to utilize such information efficaciously in modulating one ‘s ain life, to appreciate one ‘s feelings, frights and motives. In Gardner ‘s position, traditional types of intelligence, such as IQ, fail to to the full explicate cognitive ability. He believed the definition of IQ which focused chiefly on mathematic and linguistic communication demand to be well modified because IQ merely has a high positive correlativity to school trial public presentation ( the higher IQ, the better prep public presentation ) . However, IQ does non hold important relation to other facets such as the work public presentation, feelings or life satisfaction. Gardner added several intelligences in the thought of â€Å" multiple intelligence † , including music, athleticss, self-assessment and the ability to understand others. It was the last two intelligences that made the construct of societal intelligence one time once more became extremely valued by educational and psychological communities. However, the construct of emotional intelligence was non introduced until a summer ‘s twenty-four hours in the confab between two psychological science professors, Peter Salovey, now dean of Yale College and professor of psychological science at Yale University, and John Mayer, now professor at the University of New Hampshire. They were speaking about the cognitive and emotional research and discoursing a politician who was smart but acted dumb, which led to the decision that â€Å" smart determination doing requires more than the mind as measured by traditional IQ † . Later they focused emotional intelligence on the abilities to comprehend and utilize emotions as portion of thought. The 1 who really made the term emotional intelligence out of academic circle and be good accepted by the populace as a day-to-day used term was Harvard University professor Daniel Goleman and his book Emotional Intelligence which was the best seller around states. His sentiment set off a haste to emotional intelligence globally. Goleman discovered that one ‘s emotional intelligence has an imperative impact on his public presentation in the workplace emotional intelligence either as an employee or as a leader and as the place gets higher, emotional intelligence ‘s influence gets greater. In add-on, emotional intelligence ‘s impact is even more obvious on certain types of work such as selling, gross revenues and client service. What is Emotional Intelligence?Mayer and Salovey foremost defined the term Emotional Intelligence by simply concentrating on perceiving and modulating emotion without believing about feelings. Then they reviewed and refined their earlier definit ion, expanded its content as â€Å" the ability to comprehend and show emotion, assimilate emotion in idea, understand and ground with emotion, and modulate emotion in the ego and others † Goleman ( 1998 ) described emotional intelligence as a individual ‘s self-awareness, self-confidence, self-control, committedness and unity, and a individual ‘s ability to pass on, influence, novice alteration and accept alteration There exist many different apprehensions of emotional intelligence by different psychologists. These are emotional intelligence definitions from two governments. Even though the definitions were expressed in different words, they are similar to some extent that emotional intelligence is the ability to measure and pull off one ‘s ain emotional behaviour while able to comprehend and understand other ‘s emotions. Finally is the ability to pass on and influence others through a good and close relationship. In the undermentioned portion, I will discourse my understanding on emotional intelligence in footings of five dimensions proposed by Goleman.Dimensions of Emotional IntelligenceEmotional intelligence is a set of competences and personal traits. These accomplishments contribute to a individual ‘s ability to pull off and supervise his or her ain emotions, to right estimate the emotional province of others and to act upon sentiments ( Caudron, 1999 ; Goleman, 1998 ) . H armonizing to Goleman, my apprehension of the term â€Å" Emotional Intelligence † includes five dimensions: Self-awareness Self- consciousness is the ability for us to research our single personalities, behaviour, beliefs and value systems. Because we have different reactions to the external environments, so when we assess our emotional behaviour or feelings, we will compare our current behaviour to our ain criterions and believes to derive a better consciousness of ourselves. It is the anchor of emotional intelligence ( Goleman, 1995 ) . Self-awareness may include assurance and independency. Being confident and independent, a individual can be self-asserting and responsible to do determination. A feeling of assurance and independency besides enables a individual to hold the capacity to cover with unexpected challenges and issues. Self-regulation Self-regulation is the ability to believe before moving and command negative urges and tempers in cheque. It can besides be thought of as the successful integrating of emotion and knowledge ensuing in appropriate behaviour. Self-regulation, besides known as self-management, includes facets such as keeping criterions of honestness and unity ( trustiness ) , taking duty for one ‘s public presentation ( conscientiousness ) , being comfy with fresh thoughts and attacks ( invention ) , and managing alteration ( adaptability ) . As for adaptability, John Mayer and David Caruso commented that â€Å" Manager who can believe about emotions accurately and clearly may frequently be better able to expect, header with, and efficaciously pull off alteration † . Motivation Motivation is the emotional inclination steering or easing the action toward a coveted end and motive can arouse, dominate and support certain behaviour to accomplish ends. It ‘s the indispensable and important component in puting and achieving ends. Optimism is the imperative constituent of motive. It is non about believing everything will be all right without attempt. Optimism is more about the emotion covering with danger and prehending chances for the organisation. When covering with challenge, a leader should be positive and actively happen out other ways to defuse the crisis. It is non sufficient for a leader to work out troubles with an optimistic attitude. At the same clip, a leader should be sensitive plenty to delve out the chance brought by the challenges and take advantage of them to accomplish enormous success. Empathy Empathy is the apprehension of the feelings of others, their concerns and demands, feelings, positions. It can be broken down into seeking apprehension, development of others ‘ abilities, leveraging diverseness to let new thoughts and chances to be heard, and being politically cognizant of a squad ‘s demands and power construction ( Goleman, 1998 ) . Empathy is the ability to set ourselves in person else ‘s places ; to see the universe through those who are different from us. ( Obama ) Empathy is closely related to compassion, but non sympathy. It requires you to see the universe from another individual ‘s position and acquire emotional information about them and their place. By roll uping and analysing information about other people ‘s feelings, you are able to better understand them. Social accomplishment Social accomplishment is indispensable to emotional intelligence. It is the ability to ease interaction and edifice relationships with others. Leaderships have to acquire along good with other people in the workplace, bring oning interesting responses and act uponing others with your ain personal appeal. Good societal accomplishment enables leaders to cut down struggle and increase engagement or aid in obtaining information or completing undertakings. These are five dimensions in emotional intelligence and their constituents and deductions in my apprehension. Following I will travel deep into the significance between emotional intelligence and service operations leading. The Implications for Service Operations LeadershipIn order to exemplify why emotional intelligence is importance to serve operations leading, two instances will be displayed to show the polar function emotional intelligence drama in the leading.Case oneMany Australian fire services are predominated by â€Å" bid and control † operational leading. Because the Fire Service ‘s primary function is for the protection of life and belongings. For this, the appropriate direction manner is ‘command and command ‘ . Under such leading manner, the balance between â€Å" undertaking focal point † and â€Å" people focal point † is broken. More attending is paid on undertaking focal point instead than people. Fire service employees feel und ervalued, unmotivated and suffer low morale because leaders ignore the fact that â€Å" undertaking † is achieved by people even though it is more of import. The impact of this state of affairs is that big per centum of employees are detached which means that they merely want to complete the minimal work so that they would non be laid out, stated in a recent study by the Gallop Poll. A leader without emotional intelligence might take to this circumstance. The leader without important emotional competences such as empathy, self-assessment, societal accomplishments or flexibleness is incognizant of the importance of balances the two undertakings. This sort of leader can non be effectual in decision-making or mission-assigning. Fortunately, merely 3 % of the exigency response activities are fires and exigencies, which mean the other 97 % of runing leading can be flexible and emotional to accomplish effectual direction. Besides leaders who have better developed emotional intelligence will be much more effectual in winning the Black Marias and heads of employees. After recognizing the challenge of uneven balance, Fire Services wage more attending to leaders ‘ emotional intelligence. Leaderships began to demo consideration to the fire new combatants come ining the fire service. The new entrants normally come from diverse backgrounds, ages, educational degrees and nationalities and have different believes. Be empathy and seek to understand the employees ‘ state of affairs can take to shut relationship between leader and employees.Case TwoFrank Sims was a leader in Roadway Express Inc. and he worried about the increasing harm job on lading procedure and during the transit would impact the relationship with clients. In light with the current state of affairs, Sims recalled a workshop on emotional intelligence and realized that the stevedore and drivers should understand how of import lading t he trucks was for their company. The other twenty-four hours, he called the senior transit director, the leader of one of the company ‘s most of import clients to acquire aid in videotaping and employee interview. All these stuffs were used to assist the Roadway Express employees to hold a to the full understanding about the whole concern procedure between the company and the client, the concern theoretical account and concern mission. The stevedores and drivers were impressed and they began to hold a good appreciation of the function they played in the concern procedure. They became more cautious and serious when burden and transporting. Because the services provided by service companies are intangible, they can non be felt or touched. As a consequence, it is even more hard for employees to recognize how of import their public presentation will be in the concern operation system. Sims put frontward an first-class thought to mobilise the enthusiasm of the employees and do their company better off. They do so by utilizing their emotional intelligence to make an ambiance in which people want to make and be their best. High emotional intelligence aid service operation leader to transfuse followings a sense of ends and the importance of the undertaking, stress enthusiasm, flexibleness and organisation individuality. Other benefits include: Leaderships with high emotional intelligence in service organisation may frequently be better able to expect, get by with and efficaciously manage alteration in the environment full of uncertainness and revolution. This type of leader can set themselves harmonizing to the environment, will non panic and quiet down rapidly, particularly in the scenes covering with client ailment and service recovery. Leaderships who do non hold high emotional intelligence or are unwilling to develop it might hold some troubles in set uping relationships with their foremans, co-worker, subsidiaries and clients. As being a leader, it calls for the ability to animate, to actuate, to develop subsidiaries by naming their development demands and to promote behavioural alterations ( Velsor, et al.,2010 ) . Emotional intelligence enables a leader to place and analyse ain strength and failing, why he is the manner he is and come to understand the influence on people around ( Dijk and Freedman, 2007 ) ( Velsor, Mccauley & A ; Ruderman, 2010 ) .DecisionA leader in service operation organisation has to hold DIJK, C. F.-V. & A ; FREEDMAN, J. 2007. Distinguishing emotional intelligence in leading. Journal of Leadership Studies, 1, 8-20.
